Two excellent sites are both within a day’s travel to experience the opportunity to see birds in the wild that you might have only seen in zoos or books. 

One such place is the Jaguar Reserve in Cockscomb Basin.  It covers 102,000 acres of rain forest in the Maya Mountains and is home to hundreds of species of flora and fauna. 

About 300 species of birds alone have been recorded in this area, including the endangered Scarlet Macaws, Keel Billed Toucan, and the King Vulture.

Boat Trip up the Sittee River, Belize

Victoria Peak, Belize

Within the Maya Mountain Range, near the Belize lots available for sale at Sanctuary Bay, lies Victoria Peak. 

At 3,675 feet, Victoria Peak is the tallest mountain peak in the Maya Mountain Range.  The peak usually lies covered in clouds and hikers to the top are typically traversing through tropical rain forest. 

To reach the top of Victoria Peak, hikers can start off from the Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve headquarters for about a 40 mile round trip hike taking about 4 or 5 days. 

Hiking to Victoria Peak can include encounters with numerous bird species, Jaguar markings, and other wildlife, as well as mature tropical forest.

Jaguar Perserve
